Changes have been made to the bike helmet law for the City of Moose Jaw. The bylaw came up for discussions Monday night as the motion from executive committee arrived on their desk for final approval before the drafting of an official bylaw could start.

The law isn't without controversy as Councillor Brian Swanson maintains that it should be up to the parents to make their children wear the safety equipment, not the police. Other councillors argue that it's a teaching law and a way to start getting kids to wear helmets and then they'll teach their children to wear them in the years to come.

While Swanson's attempt to quash the bylaw didn't work he was able to change the age requirement from anyone under 18 years of age, to 16 years of age.

A bylaw must now be written before the change becomes law.
