Shake the Lake is happening this weekend in Regina and one of the acts has a local connection right here in Moose Jaw.

Cory Churko grew up in Moose Jaw and says he started touring with his family's band at an early age.

"We took the whole family and went on the road and toured a lot around here. We also did a lot in Ontario where we could play underage. They had rules there that you could play underage in a bar but you had to leave during your breaks and go to the kitchen or up to the band room. And you know, I always broke that rule but that was what was supposed to happen."

Ever since he has toured around the world and played with artists like Shania Twain and Kelly Clarkson. He and his band Toque cover classic Canadian rock songs from some of their favourite bands like Loverboy and April Wine. It's important for Churko to try and keep the songs as close as possible to the originals.

"We try to stick to them as close as we can because these are the songs that shaped us as musicians. So even to change a guitar solo on these tunes is like changing the lyrics, it just doesn't work. We wanted to stay as close as we could get keep the productions the same but give them a more modern mix and mastering process."

Toque will be on the Shake the Lake mainstage at 6:00 on Saturday evening, right before 54-40 and Styx.
