It'll be just a little bit longer.

That's the message the City of Moose Jaw is sending out following an update on the bridge project on 1st Avenue South East.

Drivers who often frequent the 'one ways' will have noticed the equipment and people working for most of the summer during the complete overhaul of the bridge near the entrance to Wakamow Valley.

Communications Manager for the City, Craig Hemingway, said things are moving along nicely but there's still a good chunk of work left to do.

"We're at the point where the bridge decks, what you'll drive upon, those are almost in place and over the next couple of weeks crews are going to continue installing the rest of the decks, the curbs, gutters, sidewalk railings to get all of that in place," said Hemingway.

He noted that the timeline of completion had to be adjusted as they hit a few speed bumps once the project was up and running - some of which resulted from working over a small body of water.

"Some of the challenges related to doing work where there's a river flowing through to get the pilings in place to ensure it's going to be a 100% safe bridge, which it's going to be. You just have to deal with some of the challenges those present, and that did delay things a little bit. We're still on tap to have it completely finished including paving by the end of construction season - by October 30th in fact."

The current detour in place has drivers moving over the western portion of the bridge for both lanes of traffic, and Hemingway added that it'll stay that way until they wrap up.

"All of the existing traffic detours are going to remain in place until the project is completed, just to ensure complete safety for everyone involved. Everything is weather permitting, so that may slow things down a bit... we should be able to get through on the revised timeline that we've been able to present."

Hemingway said all work is weather permitting, but they hope to be done everything by Halloween.
