Moose Jaw received a visitor from the Trans-Canada Highway on Tuesday, August 30th.

Mel Fitzpatrick, an oil field business owner from Carnduff, Saskatchewan, is biking across the province to raise money for Children's Hospital Foundation in Saskatchewan.

Fitzpatrick said that this ride has been on his bucket list for almost two decades.

"It was about 20 years ago... my triplets were born, and my wife and I were very pleased with... the quality of care that we had in

Fitzpatrick also met Moose Jaw's own 2015/2016 Children's Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan Champion Cohyn Wells.the Regina General Hospital in the ICU. And couldn't help but notice an awful lot of donated items, and we always talked about giving something back at some point in time".

That time is now, since his children are grown and he's able to spend longer periods away from his family and business.

Fitzpatrick said he didn't think his venture would get that much attention, but that his two daughters put it up on Facebook and "it caught like wildfire". Now he's getting recognized, waved and honked at in support whenever people pass him on the highway.

While he doesn't have an exact total as of yet, Fitzpatrick said that his site did raise over $1,800 by August 29th, but that the total is not the ultimate goal for him.

"I didn't have a goal in mind (other) than just (to) try to expose as many people (as I can) to the website,... and at some point in time they may fell compelled to donate at some point. And I do have a page set up through Children's Hospital".

He said it doesn't matter whether people want to donate to his own page or to the Children's Hospital site, just so long as they do what they can for a foundation that does so much for children in Saskatchewan.

Fitzpatrick started his journey on August 27th on the Manitoba border, and won't stop until he reaches the Alberta border.
