For one night only, the local family band - Churko - will be making their return to the stage opening for Canadian supergroup Toque.

The Moose Jaw Health Foundation will be holding the fundraising concert on January 4th at the Mae Wilson Theatre.  The night will also see the Churkos reunite to raise money for the Health Foundation, and honor the memory of the late Kelly Churko who lost his fight with cancer 5 years ago.  Proceeds from the benefit concert will be used by the health foundation to purchase new diagnostic equipment for the early detection of cancer.

Kim Churko reminisced on how the Churko family band started.

"My dad started the band, well it actually started when Cory who was the youngest was probably 7 years old, we played at my aunts' wedding and that's how we kinda got started. Mom and Dad always played in a band but we played my aunt's wedding and we (her and her siblings) got 20 dollars I remember that it was very exciting."

Bonnie Watson (formerly Churko) told DiscoverMooseJaw the band will be a little larger than it has been in the past.

Toque stopped by for a visit the day before their performance at 'Shake the Lake'

"What I'd also like to tell you is that we're including other Churko members now. Kim's daughter Alethia, Kevin's son Kane, and my youngest son Casey, so we're going to try and work everyone into the program."

Watson explained more about Toque and her son Cory.

"It's really a passion for him, and for all of the guys in the band.  They're all from western Canada, two of them from Saskatchewan, Cory obviously here from Moose Jaw, one from Winnipeg, and one from Alberta. They just love that 80's rock music. Like I said it's a passion for them so they are having so much fun, just a blast."

Headlining band Toque, fresh off performances at Shake the Lake and the Heritage Classic - features Cory Churko on guitar, who has played with the likes of Shania Twain, Kelly Clarkson and Slash, Todd Kerns of Age of Electric - who is currently bass guitarist and back up vocalist for Slash, Brent Fitz who has played with Econoline Crush and Alice Cooper, and world-renowned drummer Shane Gaalass

Tickets for the show go on sale on Friday, November 1st.
