Business Women of Moose Jaw celebrated the seventh annual Prism Awards with a sold out crowd on Saturday night.

Honoring the success and achievements of 36 local women in and among business communities.

Seven categories were awarded, each with an outstanding successful woman; Perseverance, Role Model, Influential, Successful, Mentor, Youth Achievement, and Lifetime Achievement.

This year's guest speaker, 15 Wing Chief Warrant Officer Marlene Shillingford, the first female member of the CF Snowbirds.

"I think it's very important that we celebrate the women in our community. We recognize ambition, talent, dedication within our community which aims at giving women the recognition that they deserve."

Shillingford adds that we need more women in leadership roles in our community.

At this annual gala, every winner from each category was presented with this year's special, uniquely designed necklace from Fifth Avenue Jewelers, matching the gifted bracelet they received when they were nominated. 

The winners of this year’s awards are Julie Knox, for Perseverance; Jackie Wilson, for Role Model; Roberta Fonger, for Influential; Marcy Duffy, for Successful; and Jocelyn MacLeod, for Mentor.

The Youth Achievement Award was presented to Central Collegiate student Jaimee Lynn-Hodgson, for her outstanding academic performance, leadership role amongst her classmates.

"I hope that through my life, I'm 17 so I have a long way to go, that I can accomplish as much as you guys have. It's really inspiring. This is such an amazing event and it brings such life to what women can do."

The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Joan Buckmaster, who has offered her mentorship to many young girls in her 35 years as an educator, volunteer, and girls fastball coach.

"I'm really thankful for this community, and especially for all the people who do so much good work. I also want to really thank all the people who put this all together, and how much this has helped the Moose jaw transition House."

Over $90,000 were raised for the Moose Jaw Transition House and 120 Women were honored and celebrated.

The awards are held each year around International Women’s Day, a national campaign that advocates for equality and women supporting other women.

PRISM committee chair Crystal Froese says “We’re happy to be a part of that celebration.”
