The Moose Jaw Warriors and Lethbridge Hurricanes had a hard fought battle on Friday night at Mosaic Place and when the smoke cleared, the home team skated away with a 2-0 win to improve their record to 41-9-1-2.

Brody Willms made 20 saves for his third shutout of the season, while Brayden Burke and Vince Loschavio scored the goals for the Warriors in the win.

In the first period, the Warriors and Hurricanes established a quick pace and as the period went on, Moose Jaw started to tilt the ice in their favour. Their fore-check was aggressive and had Lethbridge pinned, they were also able to create turnovers which helped to create a 16-7 advantage on the shot clock.

At 8:11, the Hurricanes looked to clear the puck out of their zone, but Tristin Langan broke up the pass from inside the left circle and then fed Loschiavo in the slot where he hammered in his 15th goal of the season.

Moose Jaw extended their lead with just over four minutes left in the frame, when Burke drove across the middle of the Hurricanes blue-line and fought his way to the high slot where he snapped a shot past Logan Flodell for his 26th goal of the year.

In the second period, the Warriors started strong, but then the Hurricanes were able to control the middle stages of the frame. Moose Jaw turned up the heat in the back half of the period.

Moose Jaw outshot Lethbridge 16-8 in the second and 32-15 overall and lead 2-0 after 40 minutes.

The third period was tight, as the Warriors looked for some breathing room and the Hurricanes fought desperately to get on the scoreboard.

Both teams buckled down defensively, as they combined for just nine shots and had double digit blocked shots. Moose Jaw fought off a late charge from the Hurricanes.

The Warriors outshot the Hurricanes 36-20. They were 0-for-4 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
