The Moose Jaw Miller Express had their four-game winning streak come to an end in the Queen City on Monday night with an 8-7 loss to the Regina Red Sox at Currie Field.

After a rain delayed the start of the game, the two teams went back-and-forth game over the first five innings with the lead changing four times.

"It was just one those back-and-forth games where they ended up being one run better," said Millers head coach Michael Hunt after the loss, which dropped Moose Jaw's record to 17-13 this season.

Despite coming out on the losing end, the Millers were able to ride the ups and downs of the game and stay right there with the Red Sox, giving themselves a chance right until the final out.

Hunt said this was a game that they may have let get away from them a few weeks ago, but they continued to give themselves a chance to win throughout the night only to fall just short.

"Things went sideways on a three-run home run (in the first inning) and we didn't go sideways with it, so it was definitely a different story from the way we were doing things in June and it's a different team and different mentality," said Hunt.

Millers outfielder Eric Marriott led off the game with a walk and then stole second base before coming around to opening the scoring in the first inning. Regina answered in the bottom half with a three-run homer from Colton Onstott.

The Millers moved back in front in the fifth inning as they strung together five straight hits to start the inning and ended up scoring four runs in the frame to move in front 5-3. The Red Sox again answered with three in the bottom of the fifth to retake the lead at 6-5.

The same story played out in the seventh inning, Moose Jaw scored once to tie the game, but Regina came back with two in the bottom half to move in back in front.

The Millers could only answer with one in the eighth and stranded a runner on base in the ninth to take the loss.

Millers starting pitcher Mason Garispe allowed six runs on five hits and four walks over 4 2/3 innings of work, while striking out four.

Hunt said Garispe did a good job of giving Moose Jaw a chance in the game, "It was a pretty gritty effort by Mason, he didn't have his best stuff today and he had to grind through it and find different ways to get outs," he said.

Matt Perry struck out three over 1 1/3 shutout innings after Garispe left the game.

Tannar Galey was tagged with the loss for Moose Jaw after allowing two runs -- one earned -- on one hit in one inning. He struck out two.

John Prudhom pitched a scoreless eighth inning for the Millers.

Regina reliever Darrien Ragins picked up the win after allowing one run with one strikeout while pitching the seventh inning.

Tyler Bernhardt registered the save, throwing a scoreless ninth inning, allowing one hit, one walk and striking out one.

Moose Jaw trails Regina by 3.5 games for second place in the Eastern Division.

The Millers will continue their eight-game in eight-day stretch with a home date against the Eastern Division-leading Weyburn Beavers on Tuesday night. First pitch is at 7 p.m. at Ross Wells Park.
