The younger kids on the ice at Mosaic Place Tuesday afternoon have a lot in common with the Matthew Sanders of about a decade ago.

Sanders is currently an 18-year-old defenceman with the Moose Jaw Warriors but back 10 years ago, he was a kid in Calgary with big hockey dreams.

“Anytime I got to see the Hitmen around when I was younger, it just made my whole week,” recalled Sanders between shifts at the Moose Jaw Warriors’ summer camp, which is being held for kids ages 5 to junior at Mosaic Place this week. “So just doing little things like this, little things for us that make makes these kids days, it’s something special and it humbles you.... “It’s pretty cool we have this opportunity to make some kids’ days and skate with the kids so we’re pretty happy to do it.”

Forward Kjell Kjemhus was on the ice Tuesday at Mosaic Place said it's a good way to help out the community.

“I know I used to love coming to hockey camps and having older hockey players around me when I was young,” said Kjemhus. “They’re having fun out there and we’re having fun. That’s what this camp is all about.”

The players were helped out on the ice Tuesday by Warriors' assistant coach Scott King. The camp runs through Friday.
