The standings remain tight on top of the Moose Jaw High School Football League after big wins for the Central Cyclones, Yorkton Raiders, and Weyburn Eagles on Saturday.

At Gutheridge Field, Central improved to 3-1 with a 37-10 win over the Swift Current Colts, who dropped to 3-1 with the loss, and Yorkton stayed undefeated at 3-0 with a 54-0 win over the Vanier Vikings, who are now 0-4.

In Estevan, Weyburn earned its first win, improving to 1-2, with a dominating 54-28 win over the Elecs, which dropped them to 1-2.

Peacock (1-2) had a bye.

Johnson & Vincent Continue to Roll for Cyclones

Ethan Johnson threw for five touchdowns, three of them to CJ Vincent, as the Central Cyclones continued to dominate through the air with a 37-10 win over the Colts at Gutheridge Field on Saturday.

Johnson finished 20-of-26 for 257 yards with five touchdowns, which gives him 1,183 yards and 14 touchdowns through four games this season.

Vincent hauled in a game-high six catches for 93 yards and three touchdowns, giving him eight scores this season.

"That's the best game that I've ever played, Ethan played a hell of a game, we just found out that he passed Coach Belsher on the all-time passing list, it's unbelievable, we're rolling after back-to-back wins," said Vincent after the win.

Mathew Dyck had two catches for 67 yards and a touchdown, while Jonah Neufeld picked up 16 yards and a touchdown on three catches.

Swift Current led for much of the first quarter after forcing Central into an early safety, but Vincent scored his first touchdown of the game with 42 seconds left in the first quarter to make it 7-2 after one.

Central exploded late in the second quarter as Johnson connected with Dyck for a 59-yard touchdown with 2:14 to go in the first half.

Cyclones linebacker Lucas Dyck tackled a Colt in the end zone for a safety only ten seconds after the touchdown to make it 16-2 and Central followed that up with a 45-yard catch-and-run score by Vincent only 32 seconds later.

They weren't done as Johnson hooked up with Vincent for his third touchdown of the half on a 17-yard pass with 26 seconds to go in the half, making it 30-2 for Central.

Johnson found Neufeld for his fifth touchdown pass of the day at the end of the third quarter and Swift Current added a 14-yard touchdown from receiver Rhett Vavra with 33 seconds left in the game to finish off the scoring.

"We came out and couldn't have had a better start, we got a deep kick and a safety right away, but their offence is very good, so we knew that was going to be an issue, we adjusted and got a bit better, but they hit some big plays," said Swift Current head coach Derek Murdoch.

Swift Current quarterback Austin Beverly-Collins finished 7-of-12 for 38 yards with one interception. Back-up Carter Moberg came in and went 8-of-11 for 86 yards and a touchdown.

Running back Jordan Lamontagne had five carries for 47 yards.

"We're 3-1, we're okay, it's not the end of the world and we want to see these guys again down the road, so we'll be better," said Murdoch.

For Central, they had a balanced attack in the win as running back Ryan Vincent, who is the younger brother of CJ, finished with 15 carries for 71 yards in the win.

"I really wish his touchdown didn't get called back, but I love the kid to death, he's going to do great things, a great player all around and he stepped into a big hole," said CJ Vincent.

Defensively, the Cyclones are coming away happy with their performance in holding the Colts' offence in check through much of the game, allowing just 151 yards.

"One thing our defence is trying to work on is keeping those points low, we want to get our offence on the field as much as possible," said Lucas Dyck. "All of our defence was really trusting today, we had faith in our boys to be able to cover the places that needed to be covered."

Central has a bye this week, while Swift Current travels to Estevan on Saturday for their next action.

Yorkton Keeps Pedal Down; Shuts Out Vanier

The Yorkton Raiders continued to put points up at a record pace as they rolled to a 54-0 win over the Vanier Vikings at Gutheridge Field on Saturday.

Yorkton quarterback Jordin Rusnack threw for six touchdowns and ran for another in a dominating performance.

"Throwing-wise, we've got receivers that can make plays and running, we've got me and two stud running backs that get downfield and hit the hole," said Rusnack, who finished 14-of-26 for 280 yards, while rushing nine times for a team-leading 85 yards.

Receiver Tyler Harasymuk had three catches for 71 yards and two touchdowns, while Carson Sveinbjornson four catches for 75 yards and one touchdown. Garion Miller had a 31-yard touchdown, Dylan Lepowick had 60 yards and a touchdown and Johntee Ostapowich also found the end zone in the win.

"At the start, we were just feeling them out, just setting them up for some of our extra plays to hit them deep, but it was a good win to get for us," said Rusnack.

For Vanier, the end result wasn't what they were focusing on, but more the battle that they showed against the defending league champions.

"Their quarterback can throw better than any quarterback I've ever seen, that’s the best offence in the league and in the first half, we were making them go three-and-out and holding them. Our defence played great," said Vanier running back Tyler Lorenz.

Lorenz had 11 carries for eight yards, while Brydon Bell led the team with one catch for 12 yards. The Vikings were held to 22 yards of total offence in the loss.

Vanier will return to the field on Saturday when they host the Weyburn Eagles, while the Raiders welcome in the Peacock Tornadoes to Yorkton.
