The Caronport Cougars’ girls and boys teams secured their spots in the Moose Jaw High School Senior Basketball League semifinal with wins in quarterfinal action on Tuesday night.

The fourth place Cougars won 64-41 win over the fifth place Assiniboia Rockets in the girls quarterfinal.

Mya Matthies led the charge for Caronport with 19 points in the win, while Rachelle Kienle added 12 points for the Cougars. Alyssa Anderson did the bulk of the heavy lifting for the Rockets with 14 points in the loss.

In the boys quarterfinal game, the fourth place Cougars rolled to a 100-52 win over the fifth place Rockets.

Jude Shepherd-Hills had a game-high 28 points in the win for Caronport, while Logan Fettes picked up 22 points in the loss for Assiniboia.

The Cougar girls will now face the first place Peacock Toilers in the semifinals, while the Caronport boys get a date with the top ranked Central Cyclones in their semifinal. Both games go on Thursday.

In the other girls semifinal, second place Central will host third place Vanier, while the other boys semifinal will see second place Peacock host third place Vanier.

The league championship games will be played next Tuesday at Sask Polytech.

Junior Finals Wednesday… The junior basketball titles will be handed out on Wednesday night with games happening at four different schools.

Peacock hosts Vanier in the junior girls final, while Cornerstone welcomes in Central Butte for the junior varsity girls final. Both those games tip-off at 6:20 p.m.

The junior boys final will see Vanier Red host Central Gold, while Central Red takes on Cornerstone/Riverview in the junior varsity boys final. Both games hit the court at 8 p.m.
