The YMCA Girl Power Group is organized by three local women - Angela Sereda, Jocelyn McLoed and Jenn Angus.

Their goal is to enrich the lives of young women in our community, and the group received a financial boost on Thursday, which was International Women's Day.

Angus said there's plenty of benefits to these girls spending time with each other and with positive role models as well during the duration of the program.

"There's the self esteem, there's the empowerment, there's learning that they are capable of doing great things in their community. It's not just for each other, but also for themselves, and as a whole for the community."

She noted that there's different capacities to being involved in the program.

"So the Girl Power Group there's 3 levels of what we do; we do a Y Girls Program - so a weekly fun program for young girls to do recreation, crafts, that kind of thing. We do an in-school mentor-ship component, and we also do our girls' leadership group."

Wrapture Spa and Boutique held an event during International Women's Day in Moose Jaw that saw proceeds given to the Girl Power Group for the second year in a row.

Vicki Watson, detailed why they continue to show support for this group of girls and the program their in.

"There's such a wide range of girls, different ages. This program really works with mentors in the community to help empower them. They're going to be the future leaders in our community. They will help foster other young girls to rise to the occasion or rise to their dreams, their passions, and realize their potential. So I think it's important to support the girls in our community."

Watson and her staff not only raised funds, but they also brought the girls and their facilitators in for an evening of pampering at her spa.
