It wasn’t what the Moose Jaw Winmar AAA Warriors had in mind on Saturday night, as the Tisdale Trojans stormed back from a 3-1 deficit to win 4-3 in a shootout.

The Warriors were cruising through two periods securing a 3-1 lead, but Tisdale’s Dayton Reschny and Matthew Van Blaricom third-period goals tied the game with 9:50 left in the frame. The Trojans came alive in the third outshooting Moose Jaw 19-9 and the 7-1 in the overtime period.

Van Blaricom and Kale Margolis scored in the shootout, while Dylan Duzan and Liam Fitzpatrick missed their opportunities to take the road win back to Tisdale.

Warriors netminder Ryan Bain was the first star of the game stopping 40 shots in the loss. His counterpart Liam Beal was the game’s second star turning aside 36 shots.

Moose Jaw picked up a point in the loss and is still atop the Saskatchewan Male U18 AAA Hockey League (SMAAAHL) standings with a 2-0-0-1-0 record and five points.

It only took Lipton, SK Connor Miller 29 seconds into the game to put the Warriors up 1-0 for his first goal of the season. Liam Fitzpatrick and Grady Hoffman picked up assists on the goal.

Just over nine minutes later, Moose Jaw’s Bryce Boughen would notch his second goal of the season beating Beal while giving the Warriors a 2-0 edge, which they would take into the first intermission. Hoffman added an assist for his second point of the game.

Shots were pretty even with Moose Jaw having the edge 11-8.

Tisdale would get within one after Kale Margolis would beat Bain to make it 2-1 almost halfway through the game. Dayton Reschny and Luc Bourdon picked up assists.

Johan Pinel gave Moose Jaw a two-goal cushion with 7:39 left in the second period, finding the back of the net and giving the home side a 3-1 lead heading into the third period.

Shots after 40 minutes were 29-17 in favour of Moose Jaw.

After playing 40 minutes with the lead, the third is when the game’s momentum shifted in favour of the Trojans.

They came out firing on all cylinders and took over the game, putting 19 shots on Bain in the period. At the 5:54 mark of the period, one of those 19 shots went in, after Dayton Reschny would pick up his second point of the game, beating Bain to cut the Warrior's lead to 3-2.

Just over four minutes later Van Blaricom tied the game at 3-3 by finding the back of the net.

After 60 minutes the game would be tied and Moose Jaw would go into their first overtime period of the season. The Warriors netminder did all he could for his team stopping all seven that were thrown at him, while Moose Jaw only managed one in the extra frame.

Overtime solved nothing, so the game went into a shootout, and the rest is history with Tisdale escaping with the 4-3 shootout win.

Grady Hoffman led the team in points with two assists. Connor Miller, Bryce Boughen, and Jonah Pinel added a goal apiece in the loss, while Liam Fitzpatrick and Kanyan Unger picked assists.

Moose Jaw will have a quick turnaround as they head to Saskatoon on Sunday for their first matchup of the season with the 1-1-0-0-0 Contacts at Merlis Belsher Place at 5:00 p.m.
