Another key member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders was lost for the season on Wednesday.

The Riders announced that defensive back Weldon Brown suffered a torn pectoral muscle during last Friday's 35-32 overtime loss to the BC Lions in Vancouver.

It's the second player in as many days and third overall for the Riders to suffer a season ending injury so far this season.

“It's the same old thing. You guys can just play the tape recording from the other four or five that we keep losing,” said head coach Corey Chamblin after practice on Wednesday.

“It's always tough anytime you lose a guy for a number of weeks, especially a team leader, but we have to adjust. We have some good quality guys in back-up roles that we can depend on, so it's time to see what those guys have and take the next step and see where they are.”

The thought is that newly signed defensive back Geoff Tisdale will fill in for Brown at the halfback spot now. Tisdale, an eight-year CFL vet, was signed on Tuesday after being named an East Division All-Star for the past two seasons in Montreal.

“Weldon was one of our good man cover guys, but Tisdale will play some for us and he's a good man cover guy also,” said Chamblin.

With so many players being seriously injured this early in the season, there has to be some definite frustration with the team, but Chamblin said none of it is preventable, just part of the game.

“A little bit of bad luck there and hopefully we can get it turned around,” he said. “That's where the football gods have us right now, it's about adversity and tests and this team is learning how to go through some things, but I think we'll make it through.”

The Riders have also added some depth players in recent days, bringing in national defensive back Dan West, who spent the past three seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He has 28 special teams tackles in 45 career regular season games.

Saskatchewan also brought back three-time Grey Cup champion Paul Woldu, who was cut during training camp.

“When we started combing through the guys, he was a name that came up and we know he's local and we know he knows the culture and different things like that, so it was a no-brainer to bring him back,” said Chamblin.

The Riders have their walkthrough on Thursday morning at Mosaic Stadium before they host the Lions on Friday night, looking to end their three-game losing streak to start the season.
