The Moose Jaw River Watershed Art and Essay contest winner was announced on Thursday and grade six student from Westmount Elementary School Katelyn Lowenberg was named the grand prize winner.

Katelyn and her family will get a paid trip to North Battleford to join the winners from the six other watersheds in the province at the provincial watershed conference.

Katelyn tells us what her essay was about, "It was about how people don't really take care of water and about why people should take more care of water and I just took my heart and power in to it to think of it."

Katelyn tells what drew here to writing this essay, "I really like writing so I thought if I try to write my very best I could win and I just wrote and wrote and wrote and threw out a bunch of paper."

Katelyn's and 9 other essays from Moose Jaw will be published in a book along with the winners from the other watersheds in the province.
