The to do list at Moose Jaw City Hall continues to grow as more problems with water meters are coming to light.

There have been three cases of residents taking their issues to councillors after failing to get, what they thought, was a fair resolution from city staff. In two of the cases, faulty equipment was to blame, resulting in a massive supplemental water bill.

Finance Director Brian Acker says they have about 14,000 water meters and a lot of them are getting over 30 years old with no plan to replace them.

"At this point in time there isn't and that's one of the things that we've asked council, is to refer that to Capital Budget discussions where we'd like to bring forward the need for a water meter replacement program. It's been more of a repair program so if a meter has stopped or isn't working, then we repair it but there hasn't been a replacement program."

In some cases, the issue is not being able to get inside a home to check the meter and that's why it's important for home owners to fill out the green meter reader cards left in your mailbox.
