It was a foggy and chilly morning as fans congregated to wish the Moose Jaw Warriors well on their way to Saginaw, Michigan for the 104th Memorial Cup just after 7 a.m.
Carl Paulhus was the first person seen standing on the sidewalk to meet the bus. “I just came out to send them on their way – hopefully they win the Memorial Cup.”
Nancy Couzens, who was a season ticket holder for 17 years before taking a short break, and is a season ticket holder again, had a message for the team: “Go Warriors Go!”
11-year-old Dominic and 9-year-old Gabriel were outside with noisemakers. “We’re just here to watch the Warriors and give them good luck to go to Saginaw,” said Gabriel.
14-year-old Charley was asked how she thinks the Warriors will fare. “I think it’s going to be a tough game, but I think they can do it with the encouragement from people from Moose Jaw.”
The Warriors once again had a police escort on their way out of town.
The team will face off against the hosts, the Saginaw Spirit, at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 24.
