The Moose Jaw Warriors made a big deal Thursday morning, acquiring Keaton Ellerby from Kamloops for Brady Calla and followed that up with a multi-player deal with Portland.

The Moose Jaw Warriors made a huge improvement to there defense Thursday, acquiring 19 year old Keaton Ellerby from the Kamloops Blazers in exchange for 19 year old forward Brady Calla.

Ellerby has three points and 29 penalty minutes in 16 games this season.  The 6'4" 190lbs blueliner was selected 10th overall by Florida in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, and attended Canada's National Junior Team Summer Evaluation Camp.

Calla joined the Warriors last December from Everett, and had two goals and ten points in 14 games this season.

Ellerby will join the Warriors in time to suit up in Friday's game against the Calgary Hitmen.

Then, early Thursday afternoon, the Warriors announced another major deal.

The Warriors acquired the Portland Winterhawks Captain Frazer McLaren, defenseman Ty Ariss and a 5th round pick in the 2008 WHL Bantam draft in exchange for overage left winger Keith Voytechek, forward Jason Grecica and defenseman Travis Ehrhardt.

McLaren was the 7th round (203rd overall) pick of the San Jose Sharks in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. At 6’5 and 230lbs, McLaren will bring more size to the Tribe’s offense.   “Frazer is a very big power forward who skates well for his size and plays the physical side of the game very willingly.  He will provide leadership and experience to our hockey club”, commented General Manager Chad Lang

Ty Ariss was selected by the Portland Winterhawks in the 2nd round of the 2005 WHL Bantam Draft.  This 17 year old native of Regina, SK finds himself coming closer to home.  General Manager Chad Lang commented, “Ty is a young puck moving defenseman, who skates well.  He will provide depth on our back end.”

Both McLaren and Ariss will meet up with the Warriors in Calgary as they get set to take on the Calgary Hitmen Friday Night at the Pengrowth Saddledome.
