MOOSE JAW, Sask. – The Warriors could not overcome the deficit created during the third period and the team fell 5-2 to the Regina Pats at the Temple Gardens Centre on Valentine’s Day.
The teams remained scoreless through the first period. At the midway mark, Landen McFadden was handed a minor penalty for charging. The Warriors’ penalty kill stood strong to keep the Pats off the scoreboard.
Quickly after returning to full strength, Kash Andresen was handed a minor penalty for interference and the Warriors landed back on the penalty kill. The team again was able to hold off the Pats to keep the game scoreless.
Late in the opening frame, Ellis Mieyette was assessed a minor penalty for cross checking and the Warriors had their first opportunity on the man-advantage, but were unable to capitalize.
Early in the second period, Ethan Semeniuk was given a penalty for tripping. The Warriors could not hold off the Pats power play and Matt Paranych tallied the opening goal of the frame.
At the midway point, Jonas Kohn notched his first marker in the Western Hockey League to give the Pats a two-goal lead. Cohen Williams was assessed a penalty for tripping and the team landed back on the penalty kill. The Warriors managed to keep the deficit at two goals.
With under four minutes to play, Cohen Williams landed back in the box after the puck went over the glass and out of play. The Pats struck quickly on the power play with a goal from Caden Brown.
After the whistle to end the middle period, Landen McFadden was called for roughing and the team took a three-goal deficit into the intermission with a penalty to kill to open the final frame.
The Warriors could not keep the Pats from scoring on the power play and the team tallied another power play goal off the stick of Zach Moore. Ethan Semeniuk broke the scoring for the Warriors and tallied his 12th of the season with assists to Jan Trefny and Nolan Paquette.
Landen McFadden struck next on the power play with his team leading 27th goal of the season with assists from Casey Brown and Connor Schmidt. Connor Bear found the empty net for the Pats to seal the Warriors’ fate.
The Warriors went three for six on the power play and one for two on the penalty kill. In net, Chase Wutzke and Kyle Jones combined for 25 saves on 29 shots. Across the ice, Marek Schlenker made 17 saves on 19 shots.
