The Moose Jaw Warriors came up short in a back-and-forth showdown with the Regina Pats on Saturday night.

Regina scored four unanswered goals over the final 22 minutes of regulation to skate to a 8-4 win over the Warriors at the Brandt Centre.

“It was a typical playoff game,” Warriors forward Martin Rysavy said after the game. “We had a couple of good moments, a couple of good chances, but we need to score more goals, we had more chances than them.”

Rysavy finished with two goals in his return to the lineup, while Brayden Yager had a goal and two points on the night.

The loss snaps a three-game winning streak for the Warriors and was the first time that Moose Jaw has lost in Regina this season.

“We started fairly well, we come into the room up 2-1 after one, going into the second period, we were fairly confident, but obviously going into the second period, it turned into a different hockey game,” Warriors assistant coach Gord Burnett said.

“A couple of failed breakouts, a couple failed d-zone coverage mistakes and they got chances and they capitalized.”

The Warriors outshot the Pats, 43-27, on the night. Burnett said Moose Jaw was able to create opportunities throughout the game, but couldn’t finish regularly.

“We were happy with our shot volume tonight, but their goalie was good tonight, he stopped a lot of pucks and that’s part of the game,” he said.

The Warriors opened the scoring when Brayden Yager buried a penalty shot with 5:10 left in the first.

Martin Rysavy would extend the lead for the Warriors only 2:33 later when he broke down the wing and wired home his fifth of the season.

Only 1:20 later, Regina would strike back before the end of the first as Connor Bedard made it a 2-1 game after one.

After a scrum at the end of the first, the Warriors started the second on the power play and struck just 49 seconds in the frame when Eric Alarie buried a rebound in front.

Regina pushed back hard, scoring three straight goals from Tye Spencer, Alexander Suzdalev and Zane Rowan to take a 4-3 lead just 6:50 into the second.

The back-and-forth in the second continued when Rysavy buried a rebound in front for his second of the night, tying the game with 4:45 left in the frame.

The Pats retook the lead on a goal from Borya Valis with 1:52 to play in the second.

Regina added three more goals in the third, two from Bedard and another from Tanner Howe to finish off the win.

The Warriors return to action on Friday night when they host the Winnipeg ICE for the Conexus Warriors & Legends Hall of Fame game.
