A weekend road trip to the Central Division opened Saturday for the Moose Jaw Warriors with a hard-fought 3-2 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes at Enmax Centre.

Tristin Langan scored twice for the Warriors in the win, while defencemen Josh Brook and Jett Woo had two assists each.

The win is the second straight for the Warriors, who continue their first round trip of the season on Sunday against the Kootenay Ice.

Throughout the first period on Saturday, the Warriors used their fore-check to press the Hurricanes and that pressure created some turnovers, extra attack time, and a 10-6 advantage on the shot clock.

With under two minutes remaining in the opening frame, the Warriors went to work on the power play. They were able to move the puck around the zone and eventually set up Brook for a shot from the top of the right circle, Langan picked up the rebound on top of the crease and tucked in his team-leading 14th goal to give Moose Jaw a 1-0 lead.

A heated exchange to end the first period resulted with a couple of penalties and 4-on-4 action to start the second. Just 1:17 into the middle period, Hurricanes forward Logan Barlage led an odd-man rush across the Warriors’ blue-line and finished with a game-tying goal.

At the midway point of the period, the Warriors were on the man-advantage and able to capitalize. Brook came off the right line, skated the puck to the top of the circle and tossed the puck cross-ice to the top of the left crease where Brayden Tracey lifted in his sixth of the season to give the Warriors a 2-1 lead.

The third period saw the teams pick up the pace and push the puck towards the net as they combined for 28 shots in the frame.

Moose Jaw went up 3-1 at 10:54 when Tracey came out from behind the net and set up Langan on top of the crease where he notched his second of the game.

Lethbridge didn’t quit and was able to claw to within one at 16:59 when Zachary Cox picked up a power-play goal.

In the final moments of the game, the Hurricanes pressed, but the Warriors held their ground and either made a solid defensive play inside their zone or they got a big save from goalie Brodan Salmond, who made 22 saves in the win.

Moose Jaw outshot Lethbridge, 41-24, and went two-for-eight on the power play and two-for-three on the penalty kill.

The Warriors two-game Central Division road trip continues on Sunday in Cranbrook with their second meeting of the season against the Ice. You can catch all the action on Country 100 starting with the Pre-Game Show at 4:40 p.m.
