The Kevin Koe rink after their 2012 Skins Game win.

TSN is putting a different spin on this year's Skins Game.  The event has been renamed the Dominion All Star Curling Skins Game and will have a new look for the event on January 19-20, 2013.

The Skins Game will look a lot more like an NHL All-Star Game than the traditional skins game that everyone is use to.  An online vote is being conducted where fans get to pick the 16 curlers that will take part and then they will be randomly put on teams, meaning if voted in, Moose Jaw's Pat Simmons wouldn't be playing with his skip, Kevin Koe.

“It should be a fun viewing event for the fans because there will be four position players voted in and then what happens from there is it's playground picking teams, the skips are going to line-up and pick teams,” explained Simmons.  “They want to see some mixed up line-ups and make it fun for the fans and see how it goes.”

Simmons and his teammates on the Koe rink won the event last year, which would normally mean that they get right back into the event, but thanks to the changes, this year their fate is in your hands.

“This is a chance for fans to pick who they want to see and potential the different combinations that they may see playing in January,” said Simmons.  “This a good way to get the game some publicity.

“They're trying to get some fan participation as far as voting their favourite players by position and as far as getting people talking it seems to be working for sure.”

The Koe rink is getting ready for their first Grand Slam Tour event in Brantford, Ontario next week.  “That's always a big event and it will be a good lead up to the Canada Cup,” added Simmons.

He says he's looking forward to getting on the ice in front of his hometown crowd, “It will be great.  There's lots of excitement, everyone I've talked to has picked up a package of tickets and Moose Jaw will put on a great show.
