It was a stellar weekend for South Central District athletes at the Provincial High School Track & Field Championships.

Griffiths Stadium in Saskatoon was the site of the two-day competition, held Friday and Saturday.

Beyond events being interrupted by a Friday afternoon hailstorm, it was a memorable weekend for many local athletes and their respective schools.

A pair of much-hyped track events lived up their billing, with Central Collegiate's Jonah Branning winning the Senior Boys 100m in a record time of 10.75 seconds, edging out rival Ryan Botterill of Peacock who finished with a time of 10.87.

Branning and Botterill would also finish 1-2 in the 200m race, with Branning again coming out on top. The two would also make up half of the gold-medal winning 4x100m South Central team, which was comprised of all Moose Jaw athletes. Vanier's Hunter Bosch and Peacock's Mukire Kiroro rounded out the winning foursome.

Vanier Collegiate's Hunter Bosch took gold in the Senior Boys 400m race, helping his school win the overall points championship for 3A schools.  Vanier finished first with 246 points, with Peacock finishing second with 228.50.

"It's a big thing for our school," said Vanier Athletic Director Levi Broda of winning the points award. "On individual levels we're really proud of our Senior athletes, as all four that competed came home with a medal.

Those athletes included Bosch, Gabrielle Sanson (bronze medals in 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay), Olivia Moyse (High Jump) and Dustin Todd (High Jump).

Broda says those performances will help the program in the future as well.

"Our Senior athletes did a great job of developing our younger students.  We're a young team already and our Grade Nines did a great job representing the school, and now they know how hard they need to work in the future."
