A pair of Grade 11 students at Vanier Collegiate are hosting a free throw competition next week in support of KidSport Moose Jaw.

"We have to do a Christian Action Project for one of our classes," explained Kate Waldenberger. "We got our inspiration from an old event that Vanier used to host to raise money for Down syndrome."

KidSport provides grants to help cover the costs of sports registration fees for kids ages 5-18. All donations to KidSport Moose Jaw stay in Moose Jaw to help local kids and families. The organization sponsors over 250 kids and families per year, spending over $50,000 per year in each of the last two years helping kids, families and the sporting community in Moose Jaw.

Jesse Mielke talked about why they chose KidSport as their charity of choice.

"I think it's because we've been so closely related to sports and it's been part of our lives for a while now that we find it difficult and hard that other people can't be a part of sports just because of financial issues."

The Hoops for Sports fundraiser will take place at Vanier Collegiate (Andreoni Gymnasium) Tuesday, May 30 to Friday, June 2 from 12:30 pm to 1:15 pm.
