Hockey season is in full swing and a number of local minor hockey teams had a busy weekend with games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Bantam A Warriors Split Weekend

The Bantam A Warriors hit the ice on Saturday and Sunday to a pair of different results as they came away with a 7-6 win over the Southey Marlins on Saturday night, but couldn't carry that momentum over to Sunday as they lost 3-0 to the Regina Blues.

On Saturday, Ben Peterson, Rhett May and Connor Lamb all found the back of the net twice each in the win over Southey.

Jaydon Forrest had the other goal, while Peterson finished with three points in total in the win.

Forrest opened the scoring for Moose Jaw early in the first period, but Moose Jaw would fall behind 2-1 early in the second period.

Back-to-back goals from May and Peterson allowed the Warriors to retake the lead just over five minutes into the second period, but Southey struck back just over a minute later.

May and Peterson struck for back-to-back goals again just three minutes after they gave Moose Jaw the lead, making it 5-3 with 10:59 to go in the second. After Southey pulled within one with just under four minutes to go, Lamb gave Moose Jaw 6-4 lead heading into the third.

Lamb's second of the game just 5:34 into the third period sealed the win.

In Sunday's game, the Warriors couldn't find that same offence that struck for seven goals as they were shutout by the Blues. The game was scoreless after one, but Regina scored twice in the second to take the lead and they didn't look back.

The Bantam A Warriors will be off from league play now until Dec. 4th when they host Weyburn at the Kinsmen Arena.

Bantam AA Warriors Win Big in Melville

The Moose Jaw Warriors secured their second win of the season in the Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League on Saturday afternoon in Melville, skating past the Millionaires 7-4.

Nolan Jones scored twice and added an assist to lead the way for the Warriors in the win.

Ethan Bachiu, Jeron Kletzel, Brady Grasdal, Ben Wourms-Rowe and Logan Hauser also scored in the win for Moose Jaw.

The Warriors held a 2-1 lead after Bachiu and Kletzel scored in the first period, but their offence exploded early in the second period.

Grasdal scored 2:01 into the middle frame and then Jones posted back-to-back goals, one on the power play, to put Moose Jaw up 5-1 by the midway point of the period. Sheydon Woodhouse scored twice for Melville to pull them within two, but Wourms-Rowe scored on the power play to make it 6-3 for Moose Jaw.

After Bryce Cockwill made it 6-4 with a late goal in the second, the Warriors held off any pressure from the Millionaires and Hauser sealed the win.

Bryan Thomson turned away 29 shots to pick up the win in goal for Moose Jaw.

The Warriors are now 2-8-3 on the year. They return to the ice on Sunday when they host the Notre Dame Hounds at the Barkman Arena in Caronport.

Midget AA Warriors Fall Short in Regina

The Moose Jaw Warriors lost in regulation for just the second time this season on Sunday when they dropped a 3-1 game to the Regina Vics in the South Saskatchewan Midget AA Hockey League.

After a scoreless first period, the Vics jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Chase Nameth and Randen Schmidt. Dylan Jones would pull Moose Jaw within one with 1:09 to go in the middle frame, but that would be all the offence that the Warriors could muster.

Schmidt's second of the game early in the third period ended any chance of a comeback for the Warriors.

They'll try to bounce back on Monday night when they make the short trip out to Wilcox to take on the Notre Dame Hounds. Puck drops at 8:30pm at the Duncan McNeill Arena.

Atom A Warriors Finish Fifth in Swift Current

The Moose Jaw Atom A Warriors went 2-2 over the weekend at a tournament in Swift Current, finishing in fifth place.

The Warriors were able to end the tournament on a high note however as they pulled out an 8-7 overtime win.

During the three-on-three overtime frame, Rowan Calvert fed Liam Fitzpatrick with a nice pass and Fitzpatrick went top shelf for the game-winning goal for the Warriors.

Moose Jaw is back to league play on Monday night as they head into White City to face the Prairie Storm Lightning at 6:15pm.
