Two new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Saskatchewan on Monday, along with eight recoveries, for a provincial total of 634 cases and 546 recoveries since the pandemic began.

One of the new cases is in the far north and the other is in the north. A total of 81 cases are currently considered active.

Also, there are six people currently in hospital. Of those, four are in ICU in Saskatoon.

Of the 98 currently active cases, 85 are in the far north, six are in the north, five are in Saskatoon, one each are in the central, south and Regina regions.

Of the 634 provincial cases overall, 141 are travel-related, 358 are community contacts or mass gatherings, 76 have no known exposures and 59 are under investigation by public health.

Fifty of the cases are health care workers, and the province says the infections may not be because of their health care in all instances.

A total of 167 of the cases are from the Saskatoon area, 76 are from the Regina area, 111 are from the north, 252 are from the far north, 16 are from the south and 12 are from the central region.

Ninety-three cases are of people 19 and younger, and 122 are in the 60-and-older range. Of all of the cases, 51 per cent are in female patients and 49 per cent are male. There have been seven deaths of patients who have tested positive for COVID-19.

Thusfar, 44,312 tests have been performed in Saskatchewan. Saskatchewan still has the fifth most active cases in Canada.

The province reminds people that if you’re returning to work, testing is available.

“Testing is available to anyone currently working outside the home, or anyone returning to work as part of the Re-Open Saskatchewan plan,” Monday’s media release said. The link for testing is here.

Nationally as of Monday afternoon, there have been over 85,600 confirmed cases and over 6,500 deaths from COVID-19. There have also been over 44,500 recoveries. The United States had over 97,900 deaths Monday afternoon and is now over 1.65 million cases.
