The Good Scoop’s time in business in downtown Moose Jaw is slowly coming to a close.

A Facebook post from the ice cream shop said they have received their final shipment and ice cream. Once it is gone, the store will be closing their doors.

The store, located at 31 Main St. W., was run by local students Jakson McAuley, Rose Miko, Mitike Cridland, Josie Rogers, Ellie Rogers, Madison Marktanner, Ireland Guillaume, Mattaya Coupland, Kate Hansen and Joyce Xu.

The venture is similar to Junior Achievement where they operated the business as a non-profit to give back to the community. They held their grand opening on Canada Day and have been in business since.

Hansen said it was a pretty good summer at the shop and they were particularly busy during the warmer days.

She added that, overall, running the store was a great experience.

“I feel like we learned a lot and came a long way from the beginning to now learning the ins and outs of what to do and what not to do. I was a really good experience overall and a good thing to do, a good learning experience,” Hansen said.

Rogers said the plan is to close the doors once the ice cream is sold out so that they can get ready for the upcoming school year.

“As soon as we sell out the sooner we’ll be able to have a bit of time off before school and get back into our routines so we’re all ready for the fall. The quicker the ice cream sells, the quicker we close,” she said.

Proceeds from The Good Scoop will be donated to Moose Jaw Transition House.
