Celebrate a legacy, while joining the worldwide fight against cancer.

Moose Jaw's 39th annual Terry Fox Run is coming up September 15th, and everyone is welcome to participate.

The organizer of the run Craig Hemingway said it's in the spirit of Terry himself.

"Give what you can. There is no set amount, and you don't have to raise a certain amount to take part. You can go to terryfox.org to register in the run, get pledge forms online and go get people to sponsor you for the run and that's amazing if you can do that for sure. If you were just to show up on race day without pre-registering and you said here, here's a few bucks, I want to take part, by all means, you are welcome to do that too."

Hemingway said there is a 2km and 5km path, though he emphasized that it's not a race and that anyone who wants to take part in the run can certainly do so.

"It's not a competition. That's one thing about this event. You can take part. People can bring their families, push the strollers, whatever level you'd like to participate. It's really just about getting together and celebrating Terry's legacy. His whole thing was doing what you can and giving what you can."

All the money raised goes back into the Terry Fox foundation. The foundation funds over 360 researchers who are all focused on the fight against cancer.

"They're very proud to say that 79 cents of every dollar that is raised goes directly to cancer research. There are 52 ongoing funded projects attacking several different types of cancers that this money goes towards and they're seeing results. Overall the cancer stats have improved in Canada."

Along with the run itself, there will be bouncy castles, games to play, and a barbecue held right after the run.

Registration can be done online here, or on the day of the event at 10:30 AM at Elks Field. The walk/run starts at 11:30, and it will all wrap up by 2 PM.
