The skating oval in Wakamow Valley will be closed until further notice.

Representatives of the Wakamow Valley Authority have explained that the conditions on the rink are unsafe, with grassy patches peeking through the ice. It's been difficult to obtain a smooth and even flood of the ice due to the rink's large size, warmer than average temperatures, and uneven snow coverage.

If you're eager to get out with your skates on, the City has four other outdoor rinks currently open to the public at Smith, Moose Square, Elgin and Sunningdale parks.

You can still rent snowshoes and skis to use in Wakamow, although with the low amount of snow Moose Jaw has received this year, you may be better off simply going for a hike, as many of the walking trails are maintained in the park throughout the year. Sledding is also welcome throughout the park.

Updates on Moose Jaw's rinks can be found at the City of Moose Jaw website.
