Another hot day in Moose Jaw has resulted in Environment and Climate Change Canada issuing a severe thunderstorm watch.

The weather agency says, conditions are favourable for the development of very dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing destructive wind gusts, destructive hail and torrential rain.

These thunderstorms are expected to develop late this afternoon and continue into this evening as a low pressure system in Alberta moves into the province.

Extremely large hail can smash windows, destroy property and vehicles and cause life-threatening injury. Widespread and extremely strong wind gusts can destroy buildings with tornado-like damage, flatten large stands of trees and blow vehicles off the road. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
