33,890.  That is our population in Moose Jaw according to the 2016 Census.  6540 of those are aged 65 or older.  That's close to 20%.

In fact, for the first time in Canadian history, seniors outnumber children.  There are now 5.9 million seniors in Canada.

It's also interesting to note, in the category of "oldest Canadians", the number of those 85 and older increased by 19% between 2011 and 2016.

Financial experts are warning us about the financial strains this is going to cause in the coming years - for a number of reasons.

But, what I see is the fact we're living longer.  That's a good thing, isn't it?

Oh, by the way, I'm sharing these facts 'n figures as we celebrate Seniors' Week in Saskatchewan.

Something else you should know - the "seniors" aren't such an exclusive club anymore.  You can call yourself a "senior golfer" at age 50 AND you can join the Moose Jaw & District Seniors Association at age 50.
