Their restaurants and hotels are full, workers are buying homes or renting apartments with sporting events booming. Swift Current is extending a neighbouring handshake following the announcement of a new SaskPower generation site for Moose Jaw.

Our neighbours to the west are almost done the journey that we're just starting after three years since their announcement of the Chinook Power Plant, to which Moose Jaw's project will be a twin.

Swift Current Mayor Denis Perrault says the project has been a massive shot in the arm economically and has brought people from around the world to complete the work.

"Keep your arms open and be welcoming," suggested Perrault when asked for advice on the project. "You will be seeing people from different places from around the world... be welcoming to them. They've enjoyed being in Swift and I'm sure they'll enjoy being in the Friendly City as well."

Perrault says it's too early to calculate exactly how much money has been injected into the community over the last three years but as they work through the numbers, it's expected to be significant considering the project is worth $700 million and will take around 500-600 people to build. He says the team members are buying fuel and coffee on a daily basis, taking in movies and sporting events and in some cases are bringing their families to call Swift Current home while working on the plant.
