Representatives from the Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency (SAMA) will be presenting an update on their commercial valuation review to city council tonight.

This comes after the city asked SAMA to look into a secondary audit of commercial property assessments. City council learned at the March 19 meeting that their request had been denied.

Two local commercial property owners, Bernie Dombowsky and Kristy Van Slyck, are also scheduled to address city council about SAMA’s property assessments.

Also on tonight’s agenda, city council will look at changes to the development and servicing agreement the city has with the two local school divisions for the Westheath Subdivision on South Hill.

The changes would see the school boards and the city partner to complete the city’s obligated construction requirements for Phases 5 and 6a. The city’s responsibility was to service individual lots in Phase 5, while the school boards were responsible for the majority of the construction.

City administration will be asking city council to approve $53,000 for government-mandated ice plant repairs at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

In late 2022, there was an ice plant failure where a large amount of refrigerant was lost. Temporary repairs were made and now city council must approve a permanent fix.

Special event requests will be coming forward from the Moose Jaw Homegrown Farmers Market and the Royal Canadian Legion. The farmers market is looking for permission to sell alcohol for off-site consumption, while the Legion is asking for approval to once again hold their cabaret and street dance on Canada Day.

The Department of Engineering Services will present an update on the cast iron watermain and feeder main replacement programs.

Finally, city council will make a decision on a request from the Hillcrest and Lynbrook golf clubs for funding assistance to replace the Snowdy Springs Water Storage and Delivery System pump.

Discover Moose Jaw will have full coverage of tonight’s proceedings.
