Courageous Conversations is a panel being held tonight in order to get residents more comfortable with group homes and the people moving into community living and to talk about the impact it has not only on the community but the peoples who transition.

In partnership with the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission, the Saskatchewan Association for Community Living (SACL) is holding the event in celebration of Community Living Month.

With 99 people still in care of Valley View Center, they hope to remove some of the negative feelings some people may have about those who make the move into community living.

“When we speak with folks before these homes are built and talk with folks you know there tends to be a little fear a little apprehension before the homes come in," said Nich Fraser, SACL's Director of Inclusion. "Following transition, neighbours are starting to recognize these homes and the folks moving into the homes are assets to the community and they're great neighbours and great community members and they're great folks to have in the neighbourhood."

From 7 pm to 9 pm, SACL will be down at the Temple Gardens Mineral Spa to inform the public more on transitioning and some speakers they have featured are those who have already transitioned to community living, speaking about themselves and their transitions.

"I mean, this really is a community conversation," added Fraser. "So, I mean we’re looking for community leaders but we’re also looking for just the average person who's curious to know about the transition. We felt it’s really time to answer some of the questions and talk to the community about transitions."
