A rough second and third quarter sunk the Saskatchewan Rush in Game 2 of the National Lacrosse League final on Saturday night.

The Rochester Knighthawks won 13-8 over the Rush to even up the best-of-three series at 1-1, forcing a deciding third game next Saturday in Saskatoon.

Jeff Shattler led the offence for the Rush with a hat trick and seven points in the loss, while Ryan Keenan scored twice and Robert Church had a goal and three points.

Mark Matthews had four assists in the loss.

Church scored just 50 seconds into the game and Shattler made it 2-0 for the Rush with 3:32 gone in the first quarter. The two sides would sit tied at 3-3 after one.

Rochester struck for four straight goals to open the second quarter, including a shorthanded marker from Austin Shanks just 26 seconds into the frame.

Ben McIntosh scored the lone goal for the Rush in the second as they fell behind 8-4 at halftime.

Shattler opened the scoring 2:53 into the third quarter, but Rochester extended their lead to 10-5 after three.

The two sides traded goals throughout the fourth quarter, but Saskatchewan was never able to close that five-goal gap.

Josh Currier led the Knighthawks with four goals and six points, while Cody Jamieson finished with two goals and four points, and Shanks had a goal and four points.

Rush goalie Evan Kirk made 40 saves in the loss. Rochester goalie Matt Vinc turned away 47 shots.

The Rush will now host the Knighthawks for Game 3 with the NLL Cup on the line on Saturday, June 9 at SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon.
