It all came down to the wire on Saturday night at Mosaic Stadium, as the Saskatchewan Roughriders ended up falling to the Ottawa Redblacks, 30-27.

The Riders came out strong on both sides of the ball in the first quarter, as the defence forced a sack and the offence drove down the field to kick a 38-yard field goal, putting the Riders up early, 3-0. Ottawa came back and was able to kick a field goal of their own. The Riders final drive of the first quarter was capped off with a 71-yard touchdown pass from Kevin Glenn to Naaman Roosevelt, putting the Roughriders back in front, 10-3.

Ottawa managed to come right back with a major of their own early in the second, as they finished an 81-yard drive with a touchdown pass from Henry Burris to Greg Ellingson, tying the game, 10-10. On the ensuing kickoff, Rider returner Tristan Jackson returned the ball 42-yards, up into Ottawa territory and 8 plays later, the Riders were right back in the endzone, thanks to a Rob Bagg catch. An Ottawa single and field goals from either side made the score 20-14 for the Riders as teams went into the locker room for halftime.

The Redblacks came out strong to start the third quarter, as they marched down the field and scored on a 25-yard screen pass to receiver Chris Williams. Saskatchewan came back and was able to make a 49-yard field goal after a pair of 15-yard penalties aided the Rider offence to regain the lead, 23-21.

The fourth quarter started well for Saskatchewan, as defensive lineman Andre Munroe forced a fumble on Ottawa's first drive of the quarter, and followed up by forcing a fumble on the Redblacks second drive of the quarter as well. The Riders offence was able to drive down the field after the second fumble, but only managed one point off a missed field goal. The Redblacks offence came back out and took the ball down the field and were able to score after a pair of long receptions, as well as a 15-yard penalty from the Rider defence, making the score, 27-24 in favour of Ottawa. Tristan Jackson took the ensuing kickoff all the way to the Redblacks 28-yard line, where Saskatchewan would manage to tie the game with a 37-yard field goal. Henry Burris and the Ottawa offence came back on the field and completed a few long passes to get up to the 5-yard line of the Riders, where former Rider, Chris Milo would kick the game winning field goal, giving Ottawa the 30-27 win.

The big storyline in the game was the return of Rider quarterback, Kevin Glenn, who played well in his return, as he completed 16-of-29 passes for 227 yards, 2 touchdowns and one interception.

The veteran quarterback was pleased with his performance in his return.

"First game back and I felt alright. There were a couple throws that I could have pulled the trigger on, but it didn't put us in a bad position. For the most part, I felt alright."

The spotlight in the game was stolen by Redblacks quarterback Henry Burris, who threw for 477 yards and two touchdowns on the night.

Riders linebacker, Tyron Brackenridge says the issue with the defence tonight was a lack of consistency.

"We allowed the other team to make some big plays out there and that is quite deflating, but at the end of the day we need to be consistent."

The Riders will now have to prepare to face the Montreal Alouettes next Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM.
