Friday night is the last chance to impress for the players on the bubble as the Saskatchewan Roughriders prepare to close out the preseason on Friday against the B.C. Lions.

The Riders wrapped up training camp in Saskatoon earlier this week and they will be about 20 players lighter when they return to the field next week in Regina to begin preparations for the regular season.

That makes Friday’s game an important one for those players looking to earn a spot on the 56-man roster.

“We’ve got a good roster and there’s some good players that we’re going to have to put on the street,” said Riders’ head coach Chris Jones on the tough decisions ahead for the coaching staff. “When you have to make those cuts, it’s never easy.

“We’ve got veterans that solidified positions and there’s a couple of races that haven’t been decided, so we’ll let the game decide who ends up where.”

Kevin Glenn is one player that won’t be worrying about his spot on the roster when he hits the field at quarterback for the Riders on Friday.

Glenn will be making his first game appearance of the season after sitting out the Riders’ preseason opener last week at the new Mosaic Stadium.

He said he’s itching to see some game action after closing out his 17th CFL training camp.

“I had the uniform on last week and when you get into that game atmosphere you want to go out there and play, so I wanted to play the other night, so it’s exciting to get to play,” said Glenn.

The veteran pivot is expected to be the opening day starter for the Riders in Week 1. He’ll be using Friday’s game to make sure his timing is ready for the games that count next week.

The Riders and Lions kick-off at 8 p.m. Sask time from B.C. Place in Vancouver.
