It’s amazing what can change in a week.

Everything seemed to be working against the Saskatchewan Roughriders following last Saturday's shutout loss in Winnipeg, but the Green and White flipped the script with a dominating performance in Calgary on Saturday night.

The Riders handed the Stampeders their second straight loss, winning 29-24 at McMahon Stadium.

"It was a total team effort," said Riders quarterback Zach Collaros after the win.

"I don't about statements and all that stuff, but anytime you can come into a stadium and beat a team like Calgary, who's had so much success, it's just a great team victory and something to be proud of."

The win keeps the Riders within striking distance of the Stamps for first place in the CFL's West Division. Saskatchewan is 11-6, while Calgary holds a 12-4 record with two points and one game in hand.

"The two teams with the best records played tonight and the game didn't disappoint," said Riders head coach Chris Jones. "They're a well-coached team, they've won a lot of football games and they're the most solid top-to-bottom over 10-12 years, so it's good to be able to come in and get the win at their place."

It was a toe-to-toe battle between the two teams throughout the four quarters and Collaros said the rivalry is alive and well between the two teams.

"It's a lot of competitive guys, guys that don't like to lose, they've had a lot of success here, but it's all part of the game," said Collaros.

Collaros put together a stellar performance in the win for Saskatchewan as he helped orchestrate 492 yards of offence on the night, including 352 through the air on 24-of-35 passing.

Running back Cameron Marshall made an impact in his first game back in the Riders' lineup, rushing 11 times for 76 yards, while Nick Marshall had 25 yards and a touchdown, and Tre Mason added 23 yards and a touchdown.

"We asserted ourselves from the word go," said Jones. "Hats off to our offensive staff, Mac did a great job of mixing the calls, our quarterback did a nice job of managing the football game, and our offensive line, which never gets any credit, they protected him well and gave us time to throw the ball and catch it."

The entire game was back-and-forth with the teams trading scoring drives during the first quarter and finishing tied 10-10.

Three field goals from kicker Brett Lauther in the second quarter helped give the Riders the separation that they would hold onto for the rest of the game as they led 19-10 at halftime.

Calgary quarterback Bo-Levi Mitchell, who was held to 18-of-25 passing for 221 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in the loss, came out firing in the second half and connected with receiver Lamar Durant for a four-yard touchdown, which made it a one-point game early in the third.

Another Lauther field goal put the Riders up 22-18, but Calgary put together another drive into Saskatchewan territory before defensive back Mike Edem came up with a huge interception to quiet the Stampeders momentum.

A Nick Marshall one-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter pulled the Riders back in front by 10 points.

Mitchell threw a 13-yard touchdown to Markeith Ambles with 6:01 to play, but the Stampeders couldn't close the gap anymore as the Riders sealed the win.

Saskatchewan's offence put together a lengthy drive at the end of regulation to help close out the victory.

"It's important to help the team and we were able to do that tonight, so we're going to enjoy this one tonight, forget about it tomorrow and get ready for a great BC opponent that's really on a roll lately," said Collaros on the offensive performance.

Defensively, the Riders held Calgary to 274 total yards and kept them off the field at only 25:20 in time of possession.

"We had a tough second half, we didn't play particularly great defensively in the second half, they had 91 yards in the first half and 200-and-something in the second half, but we did enough to win the football game," said Jones.

The Riders will now look to ride the momentum from this win as they prepare to host the BC Lions next Saturday at Mosaic Stadium in their final regular season game.
