The Business Women of Moose Jaw had one of their most successful PRISM Awards this year and the spin-off is benefiting the Moose Jaw Transition House.

The group of business women recently presented a cheque for $8,600 to the transition house from the PRISM Awards proceeds, surpassing last year’s total.

Kayla Dale, president of the Business Women of Moose Jaw, said it was the people of the community that made the donation possible.

“Actually most of the money that is given to the transition house comes directly from sponsors in our community, which means local businesses,” she said.

She added that the PRISM Awards have been donating to the transition house for the past six years and it is a fitting charity.

“What’s crazy about it for me is when we are doing the PRISM Awards we are celebrating the accomplishments of women who have come a long way, most of them from rock bottom,” Dale said.

“I do know that in the past we’ve had stories of people who have actually used services at some point in their life and received an award later on in life.”

This year’s PRISM Awards was sold out with a record 36 nominees.
