It was a pair of fairly decisive victories for the Peacock Toilers last night over Vanier basketball.

Peacock won 84-55 in the boys game and 75-49 in the girls game, with both games taking place at Peacock.

Toilers head coach Troy Setter's team was able to get a good lead by halftime.

“Basketball is a game of flows, right,” Setter said. “We shot the ball well in the first quarter, which gave us that lead. But it doesn’t mean you’re going to keep shooting the ball well. So that’s the biggest thing is that we’ve got to keep playing defence, and whatever happens on offence happens.”

The Toilers led at the half 42-23 and were consistently shooting the ball well, as well as getting steals and rebounds.

Vikings head coach David Tardif's team had won several games in a row going into last night, but their momentum evaporated quickly.

“Coming into this game, this was not our expectation,” said Tardif. “But you have to give credit to Peacock, and they came out here and they were far more efficient than we were on offence and defence.”

In the boys game, Devin Baumann led Peacock with 16 points, while Aiden Longworth scored 22 to lead the Vikings.

The leading scorers in the girls game were Ella Muchowski and Sadie Ward for Peacock with 16 each, and Grace Waldenberger for Vanier.

In another game, the BCA Cougars girls won 74-43 over Assiniboia. Emma Carter paced the Cougars with 15 points, which Maria Belles had 14 to lead the Rockets.

Teams are back in action Thursday night. Central's girls are at BCA, Central's boys are at Vanier, Peacock's girls are in Assiniboia and Peacock's boys host Assiniboia.
