Three second half goals sunk the Peacock Tornadoes on Wednesday in the Moose Jaw High School Boys Soccer League.

The Weyburn Eagles scored three goals on long shots in the second half to pull away from Peacock for a 5-1 win at the Canada Games Field.

“We’re a little disappointed, just in the fact that it was a close game, one that we could have won and the scoreline definitely doesn’t do justice for how good of a game it was,” said Peacock’s Jordan McDovell.

Peacock and Weyburn were engaged in a close battle during the opening 45 minutes of the game.

Javin Atkins scored for the Tornadoes in the first half, while the Eagles countered with goals from Jake Wagner and Nathan Anderson to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.

The Eagles were able to tighten up defensively in the second half and strike for three goals with Wagner and Anderson each picking up their second of the game and Brinn Clay potting the other.

“We were getting to the ball better and we’re playing better as a team as the game progresses,” said Weyburn’s Jaxon Marshall after the win.

McDovell said Peacock needed to generate more offensively in the second half if they hoped to come away with the victory.

“We just didn’t get enough attack,” he said.

“Our strength is easily defending, we’re easily one of the best defensive teams in the league, so we’ll just work on the attack and it will come.”

Peacock is now 1-3 on the year, while Weyburn improves to 2-0 in league play.
In other action on Wednesday, the Central Cyclones went into Swift Current and knocked off the Colts, 2-1, to remain unbeaten on the year at 3-0. Swift Current falls to 2-1 with the loss.

The league is back on the field coming up on Saturday for four games here in Moose Jaw.

Peacock faces Swift Current and Central goes up against Weyburn at 11 a.m. followed by Central against Vanier and Weyburn taking on Swift Current at 1 p.m.
