We are just under three weeks away from the 9th annual Paws for Pledges radiothon, all in support of the Moose Jaw Humane Society.

The 12-hour radiothon will run from 6 AM to 6 PM on Friday, November 5, with the goal of raising $85,000.

Dana Haukaas is the executive director at the Moose Jaw Humane Society.

“It’s the biggest fundraiser for our shelter every year, and we’re very excited. It is an opportunity for us to invite the community into the shelter to see what we do every single day. Every dollar raised will go right to helping those homeless animals living in the community of Moose Jaw.”

While the radiothon does not officially kick off until next month, advance donations are being accepted.

Donations can be given in person at the shelter, by phone, or online via e-transfer or by visiting the Moose Jaw Humane Society’s website.

The Humane Society is also hosting a Facebook auction once again to help with fundraising. The auction will run for four more weeks, with bidding opening each Tuesday and lasting until each Friday. New items are posted each week.

Haukaas says while donations are always accepted and appreciated, there is another part of the radiothon that is equally as important.

“Certainly, the financial aspect is very important to the shelter, but it’s also those people who open up their hearts and homes to adopt a homeless animal, or to foster a mama cat and kittens or orphaned kittens; without that support as well, we couldn’t do what we do every day.”

Since the Paws for Pledges radiothon began in 2012, over $725,000 has been raised in support of the Moose Jaw Humane Society.
