Moose Jaw is playing host to the world starting this weekend as the World Para Ice Hockey Championships begin Sunday at the Moose Jaw Event Centre.

Team Canada will be joined by teams from Czechia, Korea, the United States, China, Germany, Italy, and Norway.

All the action begins Sunday morning at 11 a.m. when Czechia and Korea open the tournament.

Ahead of the first game, the Moose Jaw Shine Club will be hosting a pancake breakfast to help kick off the event.

"We're asking for a minimum donation of $5," said local Shrine member Aaron Ruston. "It can be as much as a person wants. It's going to be from 9 am until 11 am at the east entrance of the Moose Jaw Events Centre. We're looking forward to people coming out. We're having pancakes and some sausages. It will be a great event, raising money for all the projects of the Moose Jaw Shrine Club."

With the purchase of breakfast, you'll also get a free ticket to the opening game between Czechia and Korea (while supplies last).

Ruston, who serves as Car Raffle Chair, said they will have the 1998 Corvette Daytona Pace Car on-site, with tickets available for purchase. Tickets are 1 for $20, 5 for $50, and 20 for $100. Debit, credit or cash will be accepted.

He talked about what the money raised will be used for.

"It all comes back to the Moose Jaw Shrine Club objectives and different projects that we have. The Shriners provide transportation for sick children and their families to various hospitals that we have, as well as just making sure the local projects are taken care of too."

Door prizes will also be available.
