Moose Jaw's New Year's baby was introduced Wednesday.

Damian Royal Joseph Kormish was the first baby born at Moose Jaw's Wigmore hospital in 2017.  The healthy, 8lbs, 12oz baby boy was delivered at 11:49 a.m. January 2nd.

"I was late a week," said Damian's mom, Montana Daniels. "I was in early labour for 3 days before he came. Really happy that he's finally here."

Damian was introduced at a media event at the Wigmore hospital, where the family was presented with a bundle of gifts in recognition of his status as the 2017 "New Year's Baby".

"I had no clue it was such a big thing," said Damian's father, James Kormish.  As for seeing his son delivered, Kormish added "I was at a loss for words the entire time - it was a joyful moment."

The birth was also special for Dr. Stephanie Mancini.  Not only did she deliver Damian, she also delivered the only baby born at the Wigmore on Christmas Day not quite two weeks ago.

"The family that had the Christmas baby was wanting the Christmas baby, so they got their wish," said Mancini. "The New Year baby is a nice, healthy baby boy for the start of the year, that's always a good sign, I think."

Gift packages for the Damian and his family were supplied by D&D Quality Care, Five Hills Health Region, Moose Jaw Right to Life and the Regional Medical Association.
