Curling fans will be “Rocking the Restaurants” in Moose Jaw during the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Eight restaurants and lounges will act as “houses” for visiting fans, representing different regions competing at the Scotties.

The Rock The Restaurants idea was a partnership between the Scotties, the local planning committee, Curling Canada, the City of Moose Jaw and the downtown business group.

“The downtown business group took this idea and ran with it,” said City of Moose Jaw communications manager Craig Hemingway.

“It created this whole list of restaurants and lounges that are each affiliated with the different rinks.”

The participating lounges and restaurants are as follows:

  • North West Territories, Yukon, Nunavut – Cask 82
  • Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick – Bobby’s Place Olde World Tavern
  • Quebec – The Mad Greek
  • Ontario – Grant Hall Hotel
  • Manitoba – Cornerstone Bar & Grill
  • Saskatchewan – Rosie’s On River
  • Alberta – The Crushed Can Sports Bar & Night Club
  • British Columbia – Harwoods Restaurant

Hemingway explained how Rock The Restaurants will work.

“If you are a fan of, for instance, Team Quebec whether you are from Quebec or not. The Mad Greek is that house and they will having Quebec celebrations all week long,” he said.

The city will also have a “Notorious Selfies” booth at the Heart Stop Lounge, encouraging people take selfies and post them on social media with the hashtag #NotoriousMJSelfie with the chance to win prizes.

More information about the events taking place around Moose Jaw can be found on the city’s website. The Scotties Tournament of Hearts take place Feb. 14-23 at Mosaic Place.
