A member of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, Order of Canada, Recipient of the Governor General Performers Arts Award and has had his songs played over a million times on the radio. Now he calls Moose Jaw home.

Burton Cummings moved to the Friendly City just over a year ago and has become a bit of a local myth. Arguments and office bets have taken place as some folks just couldn't believe that a rock and roll star was living in Moose Jaw but others were quick to explain their stories of meeting the legendary rocker.

Following the announcement of two performances at the Mae Wilson Theatre, many sceptics quickly realized that the stories were true.

"People are stopping me on the streets and yelling at me from their cars. Overall, the people are nice about it and they're not as pushy as they are in Toronto or Vancouver," explained Cummings as he stopped by the studio to talk about his sold-out shows. "I like it here! The people are nice here... they recognize me but they don't make it uncomfortable."

Cummings says that some other artists have taken note of his success selling tickets in Moose Jaw and now they want in on the action.

"Since we announced my two shows there and they sold out instantly, suddenly the Mae Wilson is getting offers of artists of a little better stature than before. They want to come and play saying 'Hey, if Burton is playing there then maybe we should go there' and so I've done something good for the Mae Wilson then that makes me very happy."

Cummings says the city so far has lived up to the name 'The Friendly City' and that he appreciates the respect and kindness residents have shown him.

Fans will show their appreciation starting Wednesday night for the first of his two sold-out shows with the second performance taking to the stage on Friday.
