The Moose Jaw Cultural Centre is currently closed to the public while it is undergoing a number of renovations and is expected to reopen on Sept. 5.

Some of the work that is being done includes replacing the carpet, painting the baseboards, painting the stage in the Mae Wilson Theatre and repainting the art gallery.

Inside the Mae Wilson Theatre, the production team has been busy at work cleaning all of the stage lights.

“They had to take each and every light down off the roof, clean it, put it back up and make sure it was pointed in the right direction. We have 150 lights so it's a big deal,” said marketing and community outreach coordinator Dan Mason.

The theatre is also installing a new projector and screen that was purchased in the last couple of months.

The projector has DCP-quality video and true lossless audio to give patrons the best experience possible.

“It’s a very good projector system. It rivals anything that any theatre has in Canada at the time of purchase. It was the best projector in all of Western Canada and we purchased it a few months ago, so it’s pretty state-of-the-art,” Mason said.

The screen was upgraded to a white matte with a grain of 1.0 for the clearest projection possible.

With the new projector, the Mae Wilson Theatre will be movie nights in mid-September showing movies from the Coen Brothers.

Raising Arizona will be shown on Sept. 14, while Fargo will be screened on Sept. 15 and The Big Lebowski on Sept. 16. Showtime is 7 p.m. each day and tickets will be available at the door.

Other upcoming shows at the Mae Wilson Theatre include The Gift: The Words and Music of Ian Tyson on Sept. 21, Little Miss Higgins on Sept. 23 and Rocky Mountain High: Celebrating the Music of John Denver on Oct. 10. The Moose Jaw Culture Centre also announced that in the new year, they will host the world premiere of Anne of Green Gables the Ballet on Jan. 30.
