There was action on the pebbled ice at the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre on Wednesday night as the Original 16 Cash League opened play on the 2018-19 season.

A full slate of eight games hit the ice on opening night.

The closest game of the night saw Lorraine Arguin pull off a 6-5 win in an extra end over Ben Gamble. The key for Arguin was a steal of one in the fourth and another steal of one in the seventh; Gamble tied the game with two in the eighth to force the extra end.

Joel Jordison rolled to a 5-2 win over Bob Desjarlais to open the season, scoring once in each of the first three ends to build up a 3-0 lead. A deuce in the fifth finished off the win for Jordison.

Joe Gunnis opened the season on a winning note with a 9-4 win over Matt Froehlich. Gunnis punctuated the victory with four in the seventh end.

Barb Wallace cruised to an 8-1 win over Makenna Simmons, which included a deuce for Wallace in the first end and three in the third end.

Danielle Sicinski's rink scored in runs during their 6-2 win over Patrick Ackerman. Sicinski picked up one in the second, third and fourth ends and then did the same thing in the sixth-eighth ends for the victory.

Wade Gray scored two in the seventh to knock-off Murray Stroeder, 6-4, in their opening game. Gray picked up a deuce in the second, fifth, and seventh ends in the win.

Ralph Courtnage picked up a back-and-forth, 8-6, win over Ryan Wenarchuk on Wednesday. Wenarchuk built up a 4-1 lead after three ends, but Courtnage came storming back with a deuce in the fourth, a steal of one in the fifth and two more in the sixth to move in front 6-4. Wenarchuk tied the game with two in the seventh and Courtnage pulled off with the win with two in the eighth.

A pair of three-enders were huge for Warren Marcotte in a 10-4 win over David Gray. Gray picked up two points in the first and sixth ends, while Marcotte scored two in the second then stole one in the third, one in the fourth, and three in the fifth before picking up three more in the seventh.

The Original 16 Cash League is on the ice every Wednesday night throughout the winter at the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre. The action starts at 7:30 p.m.
