Moose Jaw's Tyler Moore will get to see where he stands with the best archers in the world as he's been named to Team Canada for the 2017 World Archery 3D Championships in France.

“It’s been a lot of work, but it will be a very exciting trip,” said Moore this week.

The World Championship will be held in Robion, France in September and is expected to be the biggest event in the championship’s history.

Moore qualified for Team Canada with his scores that he’s been able to shoot over the past few years.

“In 2015, the qualifying criteria started, so it was based on some provincial shoots and national shoots and they averaged your scores with the top-three from every division getting to go,” said Moore. “There will 20 from Canada attending the World Championship.”

Moore said he's shooting well right now, but will be getting plenty of practice in over the next few months.

“I’ve been attending some tournaments, from July to the middle of August I’ll be gone every weekend, but I don’t want to burn myself out before I head over there,” he said.

The Canadian team will be in France for two weeks and plans to get some practice time in together before the championship to fine tune.

“The competition is going to be very stiff,” Moore said. “For the class that I’m shooting, the instinctive class – which is a wooden riser re-curve – is a lot more popular in Europe, so there will be a lot more shooters that they can pick from for their teams.

“Based on the last few years at the World Championship, I did make the cut and got past the qualifying round based on my qualifying scores, so if I can do that, I’d be very happy.”

In support of Moore’s trip, the Thunder Creek Archery Club is hosting a fundraising steak night on Friday night at the Crushed Can from 5-9 p.m. Tickets are available at the door.
