Sawyer Buettner picked up a win in the first start of his U Sports football career over the weekend. The Moose Jaw product helped lead the Ottawa Gee-Gees to a 12-10 win over the Guelph Gryphons at Gee-Gees Field on Saturday.

Buettner finished 22-of-32 for 228 yards in Saturday's win for the University of Ottawa, which improved their record to 2-1 on the season.

Buettner came off the bench a week ago, throwing 134 yards and two touchdowns in the fourth quarter as the Gee-Gees upset the then-seventh-ranked McMaster Marauders.

The Gee-Gees are off until Saturday, Sept. 22 when they will face the York University Lions.

In other U Sports action over the weekend, Moose Jaw's Maguire Abell, Jacob Laboccetta and the Regina Rams cruised to a dominating 51-13 win over the Alberta Golden Bears on Friday in Edmonton.

Local product Joel Litt-Jukes and the Saskatchewan Huskies went into Investors Group Field on Friday night and edged the Manitoba Bisons, 48-46.

Moose Jaw's Levi Paul and McMaster fell 44-6 to the Western Mustangs on Saturday.

At the NCAA Division 2 level, Peacock grad Griffin Barrett and the Simon Fraser Clan fell 58-14 to Azusa Pacific University on Saturday to drop to 1-1 on the year. Barrett had two solo tackles and six assisted tackles in the game.

On the junior football front, the Regina Thunder dropped to 2-2 on the season in the Prairie Football Conference with a 27-17 loss to the Edmonton Huskies at Mosaic Stadium on Sunday.

The Thunder -- who feature Moose Jaw's Jed Bell, Jayden Miller, Brant Schwengler, and Dustin Todd; Caronport's Ethan Douglas; and Assiniboia's Carson Bell -- will look to bounce back when they travel to Saskatoon to face the rival Hilltops on Saturday, Sept. 22.
